Boesch Moves to Minor LeagueBaseball as Copperheads Welcome New Media Staff

The Copperheads welcome a newmedia team to the airwaves and press box this summer. Ben Strunk will take thereigns as the new Director of Media Relations and Jon Corum will be theplay-by-play voice of the Copperheads.

 

Previous Director of MediaRelations Brian Boesch stepped down last month to become the radio voice of theBurlington Royals, the rookie-level minor league baseball affiliate of theKansas City Royals. The Royals play in Burlington, NC,and the organization is a member of the Appalachian League. Over the summer, hewill broadcast most of the 68 Royals games online on the team's website. Inaddition, he will upload stories and audio to the website and help out in theteam's office.

 

"For the last two years, Ihave had the pleasure of covering the Southern Ohio Copperheads,” he said. “Thisis the best organization in the Great Lakes League, and it was a thrill to getto call games in Athens for two incredible summers. I cannot thank the Copperheadsenough because this organization helped me reach a goal in my professionallife--getting into minor league baseball as a broadcaster."

 

Ohio University junior Ben Strunk will take over Boesch’s duties. The Columbus native has worked on the sports staff of the DelawareGazette in Delaware, OH, and is a supervisor for Ohio University IntramuralSports. He is a Public Relations and Sports Management major who is a certifiedOHSAA umpire and fell in love with baseball while playing through the highschool ranks.

 

“I am excited to join the mediastaff of the Copperheads this summer. I want to continue the success of theorganization’s media presence and find new ways to showcase the Southern OhioCopperheads to the Southeastern Ohio community,” he said.

 

Joining Strunk this season will beOhio University junior Jon Corum. He will take Boesch’s spot as theplay-by-play broadcaster for the Copperheads. Corum lives in Maumee, OH,and brings much broadcasting experience to the team. He has worked with OhioUniversity’s high school football show Gridiron Glory, was the PA announcer forOhio University’s baseball team for two seasons, was the voice of the AthensHigh School basketball team this past winter on 970 WATH, and is part of aweekly sports radio show, Sports Beat, on WOUB 1340 AM.

 

“I am really looking forward to following the Copperheadsand calling all of the games on the radio,” he said. “Play-by-play is mypassion, and to be doing it for the sport I love the most is a real privilege.I want to see this year's Copperheads team come out and have a huge season. Iam extremely excited about being the voice that brings that action into yourradio. Let's get pumped up for another fantastic summer of baseball, and goCopperheads!”
